First Day as a Trainee

Salam/ Peace be upon you,

My first day as a trainee. This is it!

Woke up at 5.50 a.m. (thanks Palie! for that alarm call.), I’ve started my day pretty early yesterday. By 6.50 a.m. I’m all set and was sent to the main gate by Syarula. From there, I walk to the Universiti LRT station. Arrived at about 7 a.m, the condition there is far from what I’ve expected. Lengang. It is not crowded at all! Weird, but heh.. its a good thing so who cares? haha… Arrived at Ampang Park Station somewhere 7.30 a.m. Since I’m too early, I’ve got plenty of time to kill (I’m supposed to check-in/register at 8.30 a.m.) so I went to this McD nearby to have my breakfast.

At about 8.10 a.m., I’m already inside the bulding, GTower. The oil & gas consultant firm which I’m going for my internship is situated on the 9th floor. Situated next to Menara Tabung Haji and just a stone’s throw away from the Ampang Park LRT station, finding the building shouldn’t be a problem to anyone. For those who dont know anything about the building, here’s some pics i dig from the net. Forgot to take ‘em myself yesterday.. :P

Dubbed as one of the pioneer “green building” in Malaysia (from thestar.com.my) to know more, you can just surf its website: http://www.gtower.com.my/main.htm

Oh, back to the story.. geeezz.. this gonna take forever! Let me just summarize it from here onwards, ok? To cut short, turns out that I’m not the only trainee there. An old friend of mine (he’s not old though.. old as in lost contact due to the unavailable-ness of facebook during my younger years… :P   ) is also there. He’s from Monash Univ, Sunway. We’re both located under the Process Department. Anyway, having started the internship 3 weeks earlier than me he did help me a lot on what to do, what not to do, useful tips, books and some gossips (no.. not love or scandal gossips.. you got it totally wrong! tetttt). It is more like work rumours. About what..? Hurm.. I dont think I can tell it here. Confidential information!! I’m a person with a job now, remember? he2..

For the first day, my supervisor asked me to go through symbols used in the P & ID – the heck is this??! well, if u ask me I’m not really sure too since I’m only familiar (sort of..) with Process Flow Diagram “PFD” – a much simpler diagram regarding the flow processes. P & ID turns out to be Piping and Instrumentation design, much much more detail compared to PFD. Besides, I’ve been given basic oil n gas handbook and also a book, “Intro. to Oil n Gas Production” to briefly understand the process. The company, if I’m not mistaken, is mainly involved in the design of oil n gas processing and platform. Both onshore and offshore. For offshore, it is the Wellhead Platform and Floating Production, Storage and Offloading – FPSO (see pics below).

For the coming 6 months, I can confidently say that I’ll be most probably focusing on nothing but designs, designs and more designs. But fear not, I’m sure that this will be very useful for me later.. especially for my final year design project. yay!

I really wish to elaborate further but then again, this entry will be too long and you’ll be too tired to read it. So, this is for the best of all of us! :)    See ya later!

      Hi orench ladee!

I have about 4 more weeks to go! How time flies.. =)

About working environment.. Are you planning to do intern there?

For intern, there’s nothing much to do to be honest.. depends on who’s your supervisor and department. But one thing for sure, doing internship at a design/consultant company, you’ll get loads of access to industrial standards, guidelines and references which will be very useful for your final year design project.

About the real working condition, as from my observation I can say that it depends on which department that you are in. Some are pretty serious/ focused on their work most of the time (i.e. process – my department..ha2) while some are lively and somewhat chaotic (i.e. mechanical) but overall, I can say that the office is a nice and peaceful place to work. I love the pantry coz the scenery there is great! Facing KLCC yawww..(albeit not directly) :P

      About my previous comment,
I’d say that each company have their own plus and minus factors. Apparently, this company’s management team might be the minus factor. But, there’s always room for improvement and I do believe that all the complaints will be attended accordingly..

Hope this answers your question. :)
